As per my previous post bicycles were commonplace in the Wehrmacht.
1940s industrialization saw more widespread use of horses than panzers and more bicycles than horses.

Bicycles did not require fuel that panzers or fodder for horses that was in short supply. Bicycles maintenance was often preformed by the soldaten rather than mechanics in a repair depot or Vets which were already in short medical supply.

Similarly the average reenactor can assemble a period correct bicycle with less investment of time and expenditure of funds than building or restoration of a motorized vehicle.

The attached is a Craigslist find, found for less than $50.00 in good working order.
A typical English or European upright touring bicycle can warrant collectors pricing. However the third world lack of automobiles has generated a number of Chinese and India sturdy clones to be had cheaply; Flying Pigeon, Phoneix, Atlas, Hercules etc.

Any of these 28" x 1 1/2" wheeled bicycles will provide a suitable donor after being rescued from someone's dusty garage.
With respect,
Fritz Sepp

There are bike trails leading out of the parking area at the Levis Recreation Forest. The Germans could ride bikes the mile to their main camp and staging area. Right now there is a small group of Germans (4) who plan to do Ostwind. I don't know if they would all want to do up a basic German WW 2 style bike. I have a old bike that could work for a conversion.

Troy a scouting party or transport unit sounds great! - besides mobile superiority!

Progress shown so far above;
Removal of chain guard, basket, chrome rear rack, small seat and decals.
Instaled larger seat with exact repro twisted springs, original rear rack and repro ammo / grenade box.

The existing handlebars and rod brake setup is useable but on order is a set of original bars with single front only rod brake to convert the rear to the coaster brake we all grew up with.

The 28" x 1 1/2" wheels allow for larger heavier off road capable tires, on order, besides being period correct and not looking like the Tour De France

A WWll German leather field gear company is making a repro leather tool pouch, on order.

Sources are readily available -
Al at Berge Werke, Antigo WI, can convert an existing bike, or advise on converting your own;
With respect,
Fritz
