Born outside Bremen, Germany in 1918 to a middle class family, Conrad Mahler grew up in the political turmoil and shattered economy of post-war Germany. His father was a surviving veteran of the Great War, and five of his uncles were also veterans who were not so lucky. Conrad was aware of his father's military service at a very young age, and often asked questions about the great war. His father spoke of old friends, training, and post-war service, but never spoke of combat. Conrad filled in the blanks. He dreamed of glorious charges across a trench-laden landscape. Diving bi-planes with machine guns blazing.

Idolizing the military background of his family and angered by the crippled post-war economy, Conrad enlisted in the German Army in 1941, in hopes of re-claiming glory for Germany and to continue the military heritage of his family. He was assigned to the 3rd Infanterie-Division (mot) which would later become the 3rd Panzergrenadier Divison. As this new war continues, Conrad realizes that in combat, politics and ideals take a back seat to basic survival. He now understands why his father didn't speak of combat. Obergrenadier Mahler is now fighting for himself and his fellow komeraden in the 3rd Panzergrenadier Division.

Moin moin!

Excellent a fellow Kamerad from Northwest Germany!  As an Oldenburger our homes are only 60 kilometers apart.

I've been to Bremen, it's a beautiful city.

I like the new stuff.  I was thinking that we really don't need replies on the bio pages.  These should be cleaned up.  Just the biography and lock the thread.  No comments needed.  How does that sound?  Udo?
